Pricing Announced for the 2013 Toyota Venza

If you read our post about the 2013 Toyota Venza, you may be interested in hearing about the pricing. According to autoblog, the Venza will be priced starting at $27,700 and will be rolling our way in the not-too-distant future.

100 Cars for Good

On Monday, the Central Vermont Humane Society (CVHS) will compete with four other nonprofit organizations around the country in order to win a car from Toyota's 100 Cars for Good program. Toyota's Facebook Page will feature the five nonprofits, and based on how many votes each receives, a winner will be chosen. That winner will be rewarded with a choice between a "Camry Hybrid, Highlander SUV, Prius v Hybrid, Sienna minivan, Sienna Mobility or Tundra full-sized pickup. A six-year, 100,000-mile powertrain warranty will also be provided for each vehicle, compliments of Toyota Financial Services," according to Toyota's press release regarding the campaign.

This is the second year of Toyota's 100 Cars for Good, which is a national program that awards 100 nonprofits over 100 consecutive days.

CVHS is in dire need of a new shelter van, which is what they will choose if they're awarded. There are no other animal shelters being voted on that day, but the Humane Society is up against nonprofits in metropolitan areas, so they need your help voting! Help support the Humane Society and Vermont by heading to the 100 Cars for Good Facebook page on Monday to cast your vote.

The CVHS mission statement says it all, "At Central Vermont Humane Society, it really is all about the animals. We are here to provide a helping hand and temporary home for our animal friends in need... The mission of CVHS is to ensure the humane treatment of all domestic animals and to promote the advancement of animal welfare."

Toyota Prius Plug-In is Third Fastest-Selling Car in America

Cars.com recently released a report saying that the Toyota Prius Plug-In had an on-the-lot lifetime of only five days. This puts it directly behind the BMW X3 and X5, both of which have a four-day lifetime before they're in the hands of their new owners.

This isn't a surprise judging by the features Toyota has put on the Prius Plug-In. Here's a "short" list from Edmunds.com,

"Standard equipment on the base model includes 15-inch alloy wheels, automatic headlights, LED taillights, keyless entry/ignition, cruise control, full power accessories, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, a height-adjustable driver seat, automatic climate control, heated front seats, a 60/40 split fold-down rear seat, Bluetooth (phone and audio streaming), a back-up camera, a navigation system, voice recognition and a six-speaker sound system featuring a touchscreen display, a CD player, an auxiliary audio jack, an iPod/USB interface and satellite and HD radio. Toyota's new Entune smartphone and Web integration system is also standard."

Toyota RAV4 EV Pricing Announced

Although it was announced two years ago, the RAV4 EV is about to make its way to the market for the first time. By the end of this year, a fully-quipped electric RAV4 will be available for $49,800. The RAV4 EV's range is 100 miles, and can recharge from empty in about six hours.

Toyota Working on Mood-Sensing Cars

Toyota has spent several years developing technology for vehicles so that they can sense the mood of their driver, but now that technology is becoming more of a reality. Toyota is working on a program that will use over 230 facial-recognition sensors within the vehicle to determine the mood of its driver.

Why you may ask? The first and most comprehensible reason is because of sleepy drivers, but there are other reasons too. According to the article, an agitated driver would be less likely to notice an oncoming vehicle or pedestrian than a driver in a calm or neutral state of mind, so the car will recognize the potential hazard and alert them in turn. The vehicle will also be able to notice when the driver is distracted, and will offer its aid in regaining focus on the road.

One of Toyota's lead technology developers says that this is still a young project, but that we will see it in cars within six years.
