In 3 Days, Prius C Outsells Monthly Sales of Chevy Volt and Nissan Leaf

The new Prius C sold 1,201 units in just the first three days of its debut on the market, making it one of Toyota's fastest-selling vehicles, according to Toyota. Not only that, but its competitors, the Chevy Volt and Nissan Leaf sold less than that amount in the entire previous month.

In Japan, Toyota took more than 120,000 orders in the first five days. I guess it's very popular there, eh? The Prius family has sold more than 10,000 in the U.S. since the beginning of March, and Toyota estimates that they will sell roughly 220,000 this year (after selling 136,463 last year).

Want one too? Don't blame you. I can say as a Prius owner there's just nothing like filling your tank once a week, even with a 45-minute commute. Check out our Prius inventory online to browse our selection and see if rare fill-ups and an exceptional vehicle are for you!

802 Toyota Goes Green With New Environmentally-Friendly Building

After a recent change of name, 802 Toyota (formerly Courtesy Toyota Scion) will be facing another huge transition; a new building. 802 Toyota currently employs over 50 Vermonters, and is expecting to grow significantly with its new state-of-the-art facility. This new edition is a green initiative for 802, with a focus on creating a building that is both environmentally friendly and self sufficient.

“We’re going to be a zero-landfill facility; we’ll throw away less garbage than the average household,” said Dave Birmingham, owner of 802 Toyota. They will be able to recycle roughly 70 percent of the former building; the materials won’t be used in the new building, but they will be salvaged and harvested to avoid dumping materials into a landfill.

Other innovative plans are ahead for 802’s new facility; there will be a rainwater harvesting system, where they will be able to harvest what flows naturally off of the roof to wash cars, said Birmingham. Also in store is “waste oil recycling”, where 802 can recycle oil from vehicles and use it to heat the building.

“We’re trying to be electricity neutral,” Birmingham explains. “We’re installing solar panels on the roof and hope to be completely self-sufficient on electricity.”

The green initiative is one focus of the new building, but also important to 802 is aiding local economy, increasing health and above all, enhancing the customer experience, said General Manager Todd Mobley. Among other additions, the 802 Toyota Service Center will be adding a covered service drive, where customers may simply drive their car in for service and won’t have to exit in the case of unfavorable weather conditions.

The brand-new 802 has just begun its construction progress, as the previous building is being torn down over the next few days. In the meantime, 802 Toyota Sales, Service and Parts will be located in its previous used car building on Berlin Mall Road, adjacent to Twin City Subaru. The new building will be opening in late 2012.

The Future of Toyota: Hydrogen Fuel-Cell Vehicles

Toyota Motor Corp has a goal to be producing thousands of hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles by the 2020s to supply the demand for petroleum-free vehicles. Toyota unveiled their hydrogen-powered FCV-R concept car at the Geneva Motor Show (see photo), but there are no solid plans for pricing and marketing the vehicle just yet.

Even though these won't be on the market for some time, you can still have the next best thing - head to our website to view our new and used Prius inventory. I mean if we're stuck buying gas; might as well buy less of it, right?

Toyota Makes New App for Car

Toyota and Samsung are joining forces to create an app in which Samsung smart phones can connect to entertainment and information systems installed in Toyota vehicles. This will enhance connectivity, multimedia capabilities and Internet services, according to the article.

The Samsung Car Mode will make it possible for users to use voice commands alongside navigation and location services. The marketing will begin for this app later on in the year, so don't expect it right away, but it is coming very soon.

As much as I think this is very cool, I'm wishing that Toyota paired with Apple... but only because I'm going to be very jealous of Samsung users when this one comes out.

Have a Samsung? Want the app but don't have a Toyota? No problem. Check out our new and used inventory online or stop by 802 Toyota for more information today!
